Monday 4/23/07 Warm-ups: Though most of you have them, there was a hiccup with sizing which is pretty common. The corrections have been initiated. Please let me know if you have a size that is not working for you. Departures: I haven't got word when you will be released, however, I want you all ready on time- not standing there talking like nothing is wrong and we were supposed to depart 5 minutes before. Be on time!! Please email me if your parents are driving to the meet and will be available to ride share. If you know who you are taking or want to ride with, email me or tell me and make sure it goes on paper detailing who the driver is, and who else is riding in the vehicle. We will confirm all of this and depart together at the posted departure time. Oak Hill Invitational: Thanks to all those who helped, please share any comments you have with me so we can add them to our file for future meets! District Meet Requirements: We are required to run the girls shot put, and at least one volunteer for hurdles at the Middle School District meet, and the entry gate at the High School District meet. Please let me know if you can volunteer. |

Athletes and Parents: I intend to utilize the most current training techniques while keeping everything flexible and fun. We are working very hard to increase speed, improve form, and build muscle (by breaking down muscle groups systematically for the best return on our efforts and time). I would like both athletes and parents to read the document entitled Fueling Track and Field Athletes, found here. It is extremely important that you stretch, drink water, and get good rest. If you are sore, stretching and ice is what your body needs. Though painful, a light jog and stretch can go a long way to getting the sore out. (Ice: 20 minutes on and at least 20 minutes off.) Please pay attention to your diet as well. Protein (i.e., meat) and carbohydrates (i.e., pasta) will fuel your workouts and provide the nutrients required to build muscle. Fruits and vegetables are also necessary to keep your body healthy and running smooth. Note that it takes 48-72 hours of constant hydration for your muscles to soak up all the water they will need. So, keep hydrated always, and you will always be ready. Remember this about water - it is your body's greatest need. Your body is about 60% water and even a decrease of as little as 1% to 2% is considered dehydration. Exercising while dehydrated is dangerous and will decrease your performance! Again, please read the document entitled Fueling Track and Field Athletes, found here. It is imperative that you communicate with me about any problems you are having (physical or emotional). I am absolutely prepared to adjust workouts to better fit you (i.e., heavy schedules, injury). |

U of O Meet Info Including normal season meets, Invitationals, and trials. I highly suggest attending at least one of these events to see future or current Olympians compete. Great family outings! Get your 08' Olympic Trials tickets soon. |
Everything Track and Field: Check out the training articles on this website, I like it for the articles and the one stop shopping. Don't get duped into buying stuff, its just nice to see what's out there. Eugene Running Company is a great place to get your shoes. 10% off running shoes for students, 15% off total purchase when you buy specialty shoes! The store is at Oakway in the courtyard. |
A great organization that has all-comer meets at Hayward Field throughout the summer. Oregon Track Club also provides clinics on different track & field events. I will make myself available if any athletes want to participate over the summer! |
